It is time to start changing the way we treat our skin.
As we emerge into summer, our skin is exposed less to cold/dry air, more to higher moisture levels, more sunshine and warmer temperatures.
This is a great time to change and update our skincare routine. To start off with, my favourite, SUNSCREEN! As the sun shines down on us, we need to increase the SPF rating in our skin care.
Ideally, a minimum of SPF30 if going about our daily routines. Obviously if you plan to travel and go to warmer climates near the equator you should be opting for higher SPF and trying to avoid the sun at its peak between 11am – 3pm. Try and stay in the shade or at least use light clothing as cover up. I would also recommend to look for a ‘physical sunscreen’ which contains titanium or zinc oxide – these help to block UV rays. They are great for both preventing skin cancer and against photo-ageing. Don’t forget to use a dedicated facial sunscreen that would be better suited to the skin on our face. Sunscreen should be applied daily and topped up regularly.
As we emerge out of cold weather, we want to get our natural glow back. Exfoliation is key here as this will remove layers of dead skin cells that makes the skin appear dull and feel dry/flaky. Sloughing off these layers of dead skin cells will help reveal a brighter complexion that will allow for skincare products to be more easily absorbed and more effective.
Some ways to help exfoliate is to use a mild scrub cleanser or using a gentle chemical based cleanser such as Glycolic Acid.
For advanced skin treatment I would recommend a series of good quality chemical peels. These have come a long way from decades ago. Chemical peels can reduce fine lines + wrinkles, fade discolouration, smooth skin, balance texture, improve acne/scars and dry skin. This treatment allows new skin to resurface. A series of peels would be needed initially, tailored to your skin concerns, which your clinician would advise.
Vitamin C plays a huge role in skin health and is known for its antioxidant and collagen boosting properties. Not only does it give radiance to the skin but also improves the efficiency of our sunscreen. It minimises age spots and hyper pigmentation. It is safe for most skin types but always take care. Dermatologists recommend starting on a product with a low concentration of Vitamin C, as if you have sensitive skin it may need time to adjust to the ingredient. After this you can work your way up to higher concentrations of Vitamin C. Ideally, apply in the morning as a base before moisturiser and sunscreen application.
Another long term investment we can make to our skin is by scheduling regular facials. It is a great way to reduce stress, loosen tight muscles and promote better overall wellness.
WHY NOT GET A HYDRAFACIAL?
The ever so popular HydraFacial is one of the most powerful, non-invasive skin resurfacing treatments available today. It combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration and antioxidant protection that removes dead skin cells and impurities, while simultaneously delivering moisturising serums into the skin.
Results are instantly visible and there is no downtime or discomfort. It can be personalised to your skin concern with the addition of bespoke skin Boosters.
We recommend HydraFacial treatments taken monthly. This medically advanced treatment is the ideal regular treatment to enhance and maintain your skin health.
